The current Saniflo UP is designed as a direct replacement for many earlier single-WC Saniflo models. Nevertheless, we still confirm the exact existing model and installation before recommending a replacement.

Our replacement service includes removing the old macerator and installing a suitable genuine SFA Saniflo unit.

We reconnect the WC inlet, discharge pipework and electrical supply where the existing installation is suitable.

In addition, we inspect the discharge route for restrictions, unsuitable reductions, poor support and unnecessary bends.

Our Professional Recommendation

The manufacturer’s product description lists 22 mm, 28 mm and 32 mm discharge pipework for the Saniflo UP.

For new installations in Ireland, we recommend correctly installed 32 mm discharge pipework wherever practical.

This is our professional engineering recommendation based on service experience. It is separate from the manufacturer’s permitted connection sizes.

From our experience, a well-designed 32 mm route provides more internal area, reduces the effect of deposits and generally offers better long-term reliability than a narrow 22 mm route.

Discharge Route and Pipework Design

Pipe diameter alone does not guarantee a reliable installation.

The complete route should remain as direct as practical and avoid unnecessary bends, restrictions and changes of direction.

The vertical and horizontal sections should follow the current SFA installation instructions. In addition, the pipework should be supported correctly and remain accessible at suitable inspection points.

Existing 22 mm systems can continue to operate where they are correctly installed and remain in good condition. However, we do not normally choose 22 mm for a new installation when a practical 32 mm route is available.

Correct Appliance Connection and Service Access

The Saniflo UP must serve one WC only. Do not add a basin, shower or other appliance to the unit.

The macerator should also remain accessible for future servicing, repair and replacement.

Permanent boxing, fixed furniture and inaccessible electrical connections can increase labour time and make routine maintenance unnecessarily difficult.

Typical Lifespan of a Saniflo UP

A professionally installed and regularly maintained Saniflo UP can provide many years of dependable service.

However, there is no single lifespan that applies to every unit.

Actual service life depends on usage, water hardness, installation quality, discharge conditions, the materials flushed and the standard of ongoing maintenance.

A lightly used cloakroom may place very different demands on the macerator from a busy household toilet.

Service components can also wear at different rates. The motor, capacitor, cutter, level-activation components, non-return valve and seals do not necessarily reach the end of their useful life at the same time.

Therefore, the failure of one component does not automatically mean that the complete Saniflo UP requires replacement.

Limescale, paper residue and restricted discharge pipework may gradually increase pumping times and place additional strain on the motor.

Regular inspection helps identify these conditions before they cause a major breakdown.

Where practical and economical, worn service components can often be replaced individually.
