However, the wash-basin connection introduces additional deposits that do not normally enter a toilet-only unit.

The access covers do not remove the need for adequate working space around the unit. Fixed boxing, sealed furniture and inaccessible electrical connections can still increase labour time.

We also see installations where the macerator remains mechanically serviceable but poor discharge pipework causes repeated problems.

For new installations, we normally recommend correctly installed 32 mm discharge pipework wherever practical. This is our professional recommendation and is separate from the manufacturer’s official 22/28/32 mm outlet options.

Before recommending a Saniaccess 2 as a direct replacement, we confirm the existing model, dimensions, WC connection, wash-basin inlet position and discharge arrangement.

The Saniaccess range uses different connection positions from several older Saniflo models. Consequently, some installations may require pipework alterations rather than a simple like-for-like exchange.

The official SFA specification lists external discharge options of 22 mm, 28 mm and 32 mm for the Saniaccess 2.

However, our professional recommendation for a new installation reflects practical service experience in Ireland since 2015.

Use 32 mm Discharge Pipework Where Practical

For most new Saniaccess 2 installations, we recommend correctly installed 32 mm discharge pipework wherever practical.

The larger pipe diameter can reduce hydraulic resistance and provide a more forgiving route than smaller pipework, particularly where the run is long or includes several changes of direction.

Because the unit also receives water from a wash basin, the discharge may carry soap residue, toothpaste and small amounts of hair in addition to toilet waste.

This recommendation does not mean that the official 22 mm or 28 mm outlet options are incorrect. Instead, it reflects our preference for long-term serviceability and reliable flow in typical Irish installations.

The complete route must still be designed correctly. A larger pipe does not compensate for poor gradients, unnecessary bends, inadequate support or an incorrectly connected discharge.

Keep the Route Direct and Accessible

We recommend keeping the discharge route as direct as practical and avoiding unnecessary 90-degree bends.

Where a change of direction is required, suitable swept fittings can help reduce resistance and simplify future cleaning.

The pipework should remain correctly supported and accessible at appropriate inspection points.

Preserve Service Access

The dedicated covers are valuable only when the macerator remains accessible.

Therefore, avoid sealing the unit behind fixed boxing or permanent furniture. Provide enough working space for safe inspection, electrical isolation and future repairs.

Typical Lifespan of a Saniaccess 2

A professionally installed and regularly maintained Saniaccess 2 can provide many years of dependable service.

However, there is no single lifespan that applies to every installation.

Actual service life depends on daily use, installation quality, water hardness, discharge conditions, maintenance and whether unsuitable materials enter the macerator.

A unit serving a frequently used family cloakroom may complete far more operating cycles than one installed in an occasional guest toilet.
