Our Professional Recommendation

The manufacturer specifies 22 mm, 28 mm and 32 mm external discharge connections for the Sanitop UP.

For new installations in Ireland, we recommend correctly installed 32 mm discharge pipework wherever practical.

This is our professional engineering recommendation based on service experience. It is separate from the manufacturer’s permitted connection sizes.

From our experience, a well-designed 32 mm route provides more internal area, reduces the effect of deposits and generally offers better long-term reliability than a narrow 22 mm route.

Discharge Route and Pipework Design

Pipe diameter alone does not guarantee a reliable installation.

The complete route should remain as direct as practical and avoid unnecessary bends, restrictions and repeated changes of direction.

The vertical and horizontal sections should follow the current SFA installation instructions. In addition, the pipework should be supported correctly and remain accessible at suitable inspection points.

Existing 22 mm systems can continue to operate where they are correctly installed and remain in good condition.

However, we do not normally choose 22 mm for a new installation when a practical 32 mm route is available.

Basin Connection and Service Access

The basin waste should fall correctly towards the macerator and remain free from unnecessary restrictions.

The Sanitop UP must also remain accessible for future servicing, repair and replacement.

Permanent boxing, fixed furniture and inaccessible electrical connections can increase labour time and make routine maintenance unnecessarily difficult.

A lightly used cloakroom may place very different demands on the macerator from a busy household toilet and basin.

Service components can also wear at different rates. The motor, capacitor, cutter, level-activation components, non-return valve and seals do not necessarily reach the end of their useful life at the same time.

Therefore, the failure of one component does not automatically mean that the complete Sanitop UP requires replacement.

Limescale, soap residue, hair, paper deposits and restricted pipework may gradually increase pumping times and place additional strain on the motor.
