From our experience, the polyethylene chamber itself often remains serviceable while the pump, float, valves or electrical components require attention.

Incoming drainage levels also matter. If the chamber sits too high, the gravity drain from the building may have insufficient fall and wastewater can remain in the incoming pipe.

SANIFOS 110 Replacement

The current black-water SANIFOS 110 uses one single-phase grinder pump with float activation. It must not be confused with the separate SANIFOS 110 grey-water version, which uses different pump technology.

We inspect the chamber, internal pipework, external non-return valve, shut-off valve, ventilation and electrical installation before fitting the replacement pump.

Correcting restrictions or valve problems at the same time can improve reliability and protect the new pump.

Our Professional Recommendation

The current SANIFOS 110 Black water uses a 50 mm external discharge and a 75 mm ventilation connection.

We recommend maintaining correctly specified pipework throughout the complete route without reducing either connection below the manufacturer’s requirement.

Incoming Gravity Drain

The chamber must sit low enough to provide a reliable gravity fall from the building to the selected inlet.

The manufacturer lists a minimum incoming connection height of 182 mm. However, the final excavation depth must also account for the site gradient, pipe diameter, bedding and required fall.

For this reason, the chamber level should be calculated before excavation rather than estimated after the incoming drain has been installed.

External Valves and Discharge Route

The current product information requires an external non-return valve and shut-off valve.

Both valves must remain accessible for inspection and future pump replacement.

The 50 mm pressure discharge should remain correctly supported and as direct as practical.

Ventilation and Service Access

The 75 mm ventilation connection should terminate in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable drainage requirements.

Landscaping, paving and decking must not prevent removal of the pedestrian cover.

The cover is intended for pedestrian access and should not be placed in a vehicle traffic area unless a separately engineered load-bearing arrangement protects the chamber.

Typical Lifespan of a SANIFOS 110

A professionally installed and regularly maintained SANIFOS 110 can provide many years of dependable underground wastewater service.

However, no fixed lifespan applies to every installation.

Actual service life depends on occupancy, operating frequency, wastewater content, groundwater conditions, installation quality and preventative maintenance.

The polyethylene chamber may remain serviceable for longer than the submerged pump and normal service components.

Parts such as the grinder pump, float, seals, non-return valve, shut-off valve and electrical connections can wear individually over time.

Therefore, the failure of one component does not automatically mean that the underground tank requires replacement.

Unsuitable materials, excessive grease and restricted discharge pipework can shorten pump life considerably.

Meanwhile, clear access and early diagnosis can make individual component replacement more economical.
